Top 5 Eminem Singles

By AdamCairn

Since Eminem arrived on the mainstream rap scene in 1999 he has had a string of massively successful singles, and consequently there has been many popular Eminem ringtones downloaded to mobile phones around the world. Ever since 1999’s “The Slim Shady’ LP and single ‘My Name Is’ Eminem has been at the top of the rap game, stunning audiences with his lyrical talent and content.

Stan

Utilising a chorus from then-unheard Dido, this is Eminem’s true masterpiece, and has been heralded as such by many including English professors who compared it to fine literature. The song is about a fan who loves Eminem too much, ending up taking his own life by driving his car off a bridge because he never got a reply to his fan mail. The track proved hugely popular with a wide range of audiences.

Without Me

‘Without Me’ was the lead single from Eminem’s fourth studio album, The Eminem Show. It had a distinctive video where Eminem was dressed as a super-hero riding around in a batmobile-type vehicle cussing along to this upbeat rap tune. It is one of his most successful singles to date, reaching #2 in the U.s and #1 in many countries worldwide.

Guilty Conscience

Featuring Doctor Dre as the voice of reason, the two rappers play out good and bad voices in various people’s heads as they find themselves in challenging situations, from contemplating robbing an off license to finding your wife in bed with another man. Eminem and Dre end the track by having strong words with each other, and Dre dropping the pretence and admitting he is just as violent as Eminem.

My Name Is

His first top ten hit, ‘My Name Is’ saw Eminem propelled to greatness, as the track gives listeners a good idea about what they can expect from Marshall’s alter-ego. “Hey kids do you like violence? Want to see me stick nine inch nails through each one of my eyelids?”

Infinite

Recorded and produced in 1995, Infinity was Eminem’s first album and only came out on vinyl and cassette; 100 pieces of wax and 1, 000 tapes which were all distributed by Mathers himself. ‘Infinite’ is the open track from the album and has proved popular since this album has been leaked on the internet and bootleg cds of it sold on ebay.

Many of Marshall’s most successful singles have become popular accessories for fan’s phones; Eminem ringtones can be heard on buses and trains throughout the world. Ringtones are the new t-shirt; they let you tell everyone around you about your taste in music.

Really like "Love the Way you Lie" Rhianna's perfect for that track. "...And if she ever tries to f#!kin leave again, Ima tie her to the bed and set this house on fire." Ahhh...memories. How is it we survive college I wonder? Nice work!
