Olympic Gyms in London

Thanks to the Olympic Legacy’s one million pound project, London will see five new outdoor gyms built to help locals enjoy health benefits. The new ‘adiZones’ will be constructed by Olympic sponsors Adidas in boroughs like Barking, Lewisham, Dagenham and Greenwich, along with other facilities such as a new cycling velodrome, helping Londoners keep fit on a bike.

These new facilities could even boost our hopes at future Olympics. One of the prime reasons cited for Great Britain dominating track cycling events in Beijing 2008 was the quality of the existing velodrome in Manchester.

But there are loads of great reasons to go the gym, not least that it is a great way to de-stress. SO for those of us who simply want to sweat it out after a frustrating day at work or just lose a few pounds, how can we go about finding an appropriate London gym? Some even go to the gym to meet people, so it would hardly be fair for us to be clogging up the gyms intended for next decade’s Olympic champions.

When finding a London gym for you, it’s important to know what kind of facilities you actually want to use. Gyms in London offer a vast array of different services and facilities, from dance, yoga and martial arts, to Jacuzzis, swimming pools, spas and saunas. Some gyms offer all these facilities in the membership price, while others will charge a membership fee for basic gym facilities and then charge additionally for other activities.

Decide what facilities you actually want to use on a regular basis, and select a gym which offers an appropriate package which will allow you to do the things you want, without forcing you to pay for things which you rarely use.

Ensure that your membership includes use of all the facilities, or that you are happy with the charges which will be made for their use. The worst situation is to be paying an unaffordable monthly membership fee and then being unable to use the facilities which you really use as there are additional charges. Often London gyms will only provide six or twelve month contracts, forcing you into a financial commitment which you should not take lightly. While you can often cancel your membership, there will often be a kill fee which exceeds the monthly membership payments remaining in your contract.

When looking for a gym in London, look into any special offers for which you might be eligible. Often gyms will offer free monthly memberships or trials to attract business, or student discounts, so look into getting yourself the best possible deal.
