The best way of ensuring a happy and healthy career, is to find something where you can combine your pasttimes or hobbies with the necessity to work. Being a video game tester will seem like a dream job to many, perhaps even too good to be true, but gamers are needed in this industry as designers are often blind to errors in their games. They remain focused on developing the game for their customers but often neglect to properly test the playability.

Naturally, game developers want to create the best possible games for their customers, to maximise their own profits, so they hire game testers to ensure that a game is ready for release. When errors are found, they report it to the developers who can upgrade and make edits to it.

The idea of getting a job simply playing computer games will excite many, but testers really are a valuable and essential part of the video game development process. Gamers love to play new, unreleased games currently in development, and believe it or not there are loads of game-testing positions available out there, you just need to know where to look.

There are three main different types of games to test; console games, PC games and mobile games. They might seem like much of a muchness, but when developers look for testers for a game, they tend to look for gamers who have played the specific console in question. The more experience you have with all sorts of different games and consoles, the better a candidate you are for a game testing job.

It might not require the normal set of skills and experience, but game testing jobs still need a CV or resume. It should be tailored towards game testing roles, and include your experience of games, computers and consoles. Any experience of game testing will be a real benefit, even if it was an unpaid volunteer job.

You can find game testing jobs in all sorts of places, but online job boards are probably one of the best places to start. While many recruitment websites will recruit all sorts of different candidates for roles in different industries, some sites specialise in egaming jobs, offering design, development, game testing positions and even jobs in the betting industry. Once you have found some positions you would like to apply for, it’s time to convince employers that you will be an enthusiastic, useful and hard-working addition to their team. This is an industry which is still expanding despite economic conditions, just try finding a finance job during the recession.
