A shed is more than just storage. A shed is room to breathe. A shed is a manly space, where function presides over aesthetic and where one can hear themselves think and contemplate life with the spiders.

If you’re thinking about getting a shed, then think carefully about whether you want to buy or make one. Building your own shed doesn’t have to be difficult, but getting the design just right can be harder than you might think. Even when you buy a shed you may have to construct it yourself, but designing, building and finishing a shed is a tall order. The advantages of building your own include enjoyment, the fact that a home-made shed can be tailored for your needs and that it could end up cheaper than buying one. Some people argue that home-made garden sheds are of better quality, but this is rarely true.

The main difference between a shed and a garage is that you can drive a car into a garage. Put a big door on a shed and position it at the end of the drive, and you have a garage. Having a garage greatly increases the security and maintenance of your vehicle. A garage might be the perfect place to store unwanted furniture or electronic goods, but there’s no better use than protecting your car.

When investing in a garage, there are three important things to consider; aesthetic, function and finance. Firstly find a garage which compliments the exterior of your home and fulfils your expectations of a garage. Next ensure that the garage you choose is large enough to perform in the way you want it to. If you have a four wheel drive car you might need a different type of garage door or maybe you’ll even consider a remotely-operated garage door. Finally, ensure that the garage falls within your budget whilst simultaneously fulfilling the previous requirements.

Concrete garages provide the most protection and security, but you should also play close attention to the type of door which you plan to use, especially if you have a tall vehicle or many items you plan to store in the garage. Some doors open upwards, while other retract and others open side to side. They’re a great way of securing a vehicle, but with the increasing popularity of four wheel drive cars, tall garages are in demand. Concrete garages are extremely customable in terms of look and feel, and offer the best way of securing your vehicle. Remember that having a safe and secure garage or shed could also positively impact the value of your home.
